On wednesday I went along to Findlay memorial church Glasgow to hear Tony Campolo speak on behalf of Singpost International http://www.signpost-international.org/main.php ,but truth be told he was speaking on behalf of the poor. His passion for what God is doing around the world touched me and challenged me.I always feel my spirit disturbed when I hear the kind of stories Tony shared.
And while I agree that the poor of the third world need all the help we can give my passion remains here in Glas…

So now its the turn of those honourable members of parliament.
Voted for by us paid for by us the tax payers.Watching them and reading about them this week has made me think about whether or not God might be involved in this whole thing behind the scenes.
Is it him who is now revealing to us the results of our culture of greed.Has he decided that enough is enough and opened the door so we can all see what our country has become.I don't stand in judgement of any MP or banker who have reached out…

I attended an information afternoon hosted by the great people over at
www.cafechurch.net and held in Costa Coffee in Pollockshaw, Glasgow. The cafechurch team describe themselves as "coffee with a conscience. It’s the fresh expression of community on the high street. It brings communities into the relaxed café atmosphere of Costa Coffee, Gloria Jean's Coffees (and other coffee shops) to deal with issues from a faith perspective." I went with others from m…

The history of Protestantism is littered with division and conflict.
Reformation of what has already been reformed.
Schisms of schisms.
Battles over whose truth is truer and whose understanding of scripture is most enlightened.
The legacy of these truth wars can be seen in the countless Protestant descriptive labels/denominations. Here are but a few as they occur to me;
Lutherans, Wesleyans, Reformed Weslyans, Methodists, Free Methodists, Primative Methodists, Baptists, Southern Baptists, R…

I work full-time as Community Development Officer for Tulloch NET, a new charity in Perth which seeks to offer practical help and spiritual support to folk in Tulloch, a mixed council /private housing scheme on the NW edge of Perth. We aim to reach the neediest in the community--those struggling with addiction, debt, broken relationships, criminal record, loneliness, poverty, etc. Our hope ultimately is to create a Fresh Expression of local church, ie. a new community of Christians with no denom…

This is going to be an awkward attempt at where I think Im going to.
I was raised catholic in Glasgow and there I truly learned that I had no respect for either the catholic or protestant denominations. That was until one day I casually said a prayer to 'placate' a friend of mine.
This conversion experience has followed me over the last 25 years. In that time Ive found myself being more wounded within 'church' than I have in the 'world'.
What it did do was force me more into looking at scripture…

Like many others, I have been participating in the emerging church ‘conversation’ for a few years now.
It has been wonderful.
It has transformed the way I think about and understand faith, and brought me again to a deep love of Jesus and all he calls us to.
It has brought m…

Hi folks-
This is a cross post from my blog '
this fragile tent', which concerns an issue that is pretty hot at the moment- namely the place of on-line social networking as a form of community. This seems particularly relevant to us as Christians trying to understand how to live as agents of the Kingdom of God in present day Scotland.
I would welcome your thoughts- particularly at the beginning of this new thing...…

Just wee tip for the discussions boards. You'll notice there are 2 'reply to this' things at the bottom of each discussion. If you click the bottom one it doesn't include the text of the last post too so if you're replying in the general flow of the discussion then that's the one you want.
You can of course reply to individual points by clicking the 'repy to this' after any post which will then include that post below yours.
I hope that makes some kind of sense???

An often debated question, and I'm not lookinng for the definitive answer. It seems to me that there is some confusion between 'fresh expressions' which to me is about new ways of worshiping and tampering with our model of church and 'emerging church' which in my head describes completely new ways of being church which may have grown out of and draw from the existing church.
Am I way off? What do you think we're talking about?

The Word on the Street came from a vision to plant a new type of church in a place that was very non-threatening for non-Christians. This vision started about three of years ago, before I had even heard of emerging Church!! The vision was to have church on the street, in a very open and accessible place, a place where people could feel comfoprtable. We decided that shop front was what we wanted. We felt that we should sell secon-hand books of all genres as well as some new Christian books. This…

Hi! Welcome to this online space where we hope to further the conversation around emerging church here in Scotland.
That will only happen if you contribute. This won't be a site where a few experts tell us all what's happening. We want to hear your thoughts and stories, your experiences and observations. We'd like that convesation to be as wide as possible so please invite your friends!
If you're new to Ning, the tool that powers this site, then there are lots of ways you can contribute:
